Ceramic insulators used in heating applications are designed and built for resistance to high temperatures - up to 2700 ºF - and resistance to fast thermal cycling. It is recommended that only Cordierite and Alumina (all grades) be used in high heat applications due to their impressive thermal stability. Ceramic insulators for heating are not glazed, metalized or have any coating applied due to the inferior high temperature performance of the coating.
Mainly used within furnaces and ovens, ceramic insulators make thier way into many other high temperature applications and industries such as:
Supports for electric element in furnaces, kilns, ovens and heaters.
Electrical feedthroughs in furnaces, kilns, ovens, and heaters.
Weight bearing components for loads in high temperature environments.

Zirconia:
Min. Diameter - 0.125"
Max Diameter - 1.500"
Length - 8"
Size range given in cylindrical dimensions. Equivilent dimensions for other geometries apply.
Tolerances
We can obtain ±0.001" tolerance for most operations. For less precise processes, we maintain ±0.005" tolerance.
Preferred Drawing Submission
DXF, PDF, IGS, DWG, STP and all other file formats. We will also take hand sketches.
Quality Control/Assurance Standard
The constant goal of NCC is a superior level of quality and sevice at competitive prices. Particular attention is given to the production of individual customer parts for both large and small runs. We implement a very sophisticated Quality Control process which we have our own customers certify. All parts that pass through our facility are visually and dimensionally inspected as well as calibrated, if necessary.
Our engineering staff is available for counsel and recommendations that will satisfy your ceramic requirements.
Finishing Types
Glazing, coating and metalization of ceramic parts are not recommended for high heat applications, however, we use our in-house facilities as well as our relationships with outside vendors to supply our customers with the necessary finishing operations for their final parts including:
Glazing - for aesthetics and maintenance purposes
Teflon® Coating - for maintenance purposes
Metalization - for assembly and conductive purposes
Ceramic Materials
Steatite
L3 Steatite
- Good electrical properties, temperature capabilities to 1800° F, and high strength. A good choice for applications requiring good electrical insulation but not involving high frequency.
L5 Steatite
- Good electrical properties at normal and radio frequencies. High strength and ability to withstand temperatures to 1800° F. Applications include coil forms and other insulators in radio frequency applications and a wide range of electrical insulators where good electrical and mechanical properties are required.
C10 Steatite
- Our high thermal expansion body developed to facilitate ceramic glass to metal sealing while retaining the good electrical and mechanical characteristics of our other steatite bodies.
Cordierite
Porous Cordierite
, with a low coefficient of thermal expansion has the ability to withstand thermal shock and temperatures to 2200° F. This is an excellent choice for applications such as element hangers and spacers in ovens and kilns, part holders for heat processing in relatively clean and dry environment, and electrical insulators applications such as gas ignition- again in relatively clean and dry environments.
Vitrified Cordierite
has most of the properties of the porous cordierite, but without the porosity. These characteristics make this material very useful where absorption would be a problem, such as oil ignition. It is easier to keep clean than the porous cordierite.
Alumina
We manufacture alumina components in four grades of purity: 92%, 95%, 96%, and 99.5% to meet a wide range of needs. All have good electrical and mechanical characteristics, are able to withstand elevated temperatures exceeding 2500° F, and have good wear properties. Applications include thread and wire guides, spark plugs and ignition devices, welding and sand blast nozzles, and electrical insulators in furnaces and ovens- including high vacuum applications.
Zirconia
Zirconia is often used in wear applications, but also in very high temperature environments. It has a high surface lubricity and can be manufactured with a high surface finish. It is good for things like thread and wire guides, industrial crimpers, and tooling for powder pressing.
